Over the past century, Florida Hospital has explored the most effective treatment methods for orthopaedic medical conditions. Today our surgeons utilize state-of-the-art techniques and technologies, like MAKOplasty robotic partial knee resurfacing, to treat osteoarthritis of the knee.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the more common form of degenerative joint disease. It is characterized by the breakdown and eventual loss of joint cartilage. Cartilage is a protein substance that serves as a cushion between the bones of a joint. With OA, the top layer of cartilage breaks down and wears away, allowing bones under the cartilage to rub together, causing pain, swelling and stiffness within the joint.

MAKOplasty® Difference

Accurate placement and precise alignment are critical factors in joint replacement surgery. What makes this procedure so different is that it is powered by the surgeon-controlled RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopaedic System. Florida Hospital is the only health care provider in Orlando to offer this innovative system, which is guided by our own hand-selected team of elite orthopaedic surgeons.

This highly advanced robot-assisted platform helps create a three-dimensional pre-surgical plan for removing areas of diseased tissue within the knee or hip joint. During surgery, the RIO provides our surgeons with real-time visual, tactile and auditory feedback to facilitate optimal joint resurfacing and implant positioning. It is this exceptional accuracy and optimal implant placement that can provide you with a more natural-feeling knee or hip motion following surgery.
